Backing up your data helps protect it from data loss due to accidental file deletion or corruption, hard drive failure, and cyberattacks. There are multiple options you can use to back up and recover your data.
Services
- The UCSF Enterprise Storage backup solution protects your system from data loss by automatically backing up your system to a central, secure storage facility at a specified time each day. This service offers convenient and cost-effective ways to back up and recover your data with differing tiers of recovery time and access depending on your lab’s needs. Different backup tier options and rates can be viewed here.
- CrashPlan: CrashPlan is UCSF's HIPAA-compliant backup solution for computer backups. It performs complete and continuous automatic backups of your computer. All data backed up is encrypted. CrashPlan is available for free to all UCSF owned laptops or desktop computers.
- External Encrypted Hardware, such as encrypted hard drives and encrypted USB flash drives, can be used to back up your data. The following Recommended External Hardware have been vetted by UCSF IT Security. All UCSF data must be removed (factory reset/erased) from external drives when leaving the university.
