Research Security Video Series
Explore this UC-developed research security YouTube series to learn more about disclosures, talent recruitment programs, international collaborations, and data security. Each topic below includes a short video and additional UC resources and policies.
Disclosures: Conflicts of Interest & Conflict of Commitments (4 min 40 seconds)
UCSF research activities often lead to commercial and/or global engagement. These collaborations and partnerships can potentially lead to actual or perceived conflicts of interest and conflict of commitments. All UCSF employees are responsible for disclosing significant financial and personal interests and outside professional activities. Disclosing activities, vetting potential conflicts, and managing them through UCSF processes will help protect you, your department, and UCSF.
Video topics: conflicts of interest (COI) and conflict of commitments (COC), what to disclose, how to disclose, foreign talent programs, and resources. Video Script

Foreign government-sponsored talent recruitment programs are organized, managed, and/or funded by a foreign government or entity to recruit science, technology, and academic professionals or students regardless of citizenship or national origin or whether having a full-time or part-time position. These types of recruitment programs operate with the intent to import or acquire from abroad, sometimes through illicit means, proprietary technology or software, unpublished data and methods, or intellectual property to further a foreign government's military or economic goals.
Compensation could take many forms including cash, research funding, complimentary foreign travel, honorific titles, career advancement opportunities, promised future compensation, or other types of remuneration or consideration, including in-kind compensation.
